Do’s and Don’ts of Electric Driven Pumps
Do’s-
- Ensure proper control devices are in place before starting the pump.
- Keep installation & operation manual for Pump, Motor & Control panel handy.
- Make sure that all electrical connections are properly secured, strictly avoid lose connections as it may be risky.
- Ensure that all piping connections are properly secured so as to avoid the leakages in piping system.
- Once supply is given to the pump, confirm that its direction of rotation is correct.
Don’ts-
- Do not allow any inexperienced personnel to operate the equipment unless they are being supervised
- Never bypass the safety & health precautions as suggested in supplier installation & operation manual.
- Don’t continue run the pump if you find abnormal sound / vibration in system.
- Don’t continue to run the pump if you observe that pump is drawing abnormal power
- Do not permit the cable to be accessible by unauthorized or untrained personnel.
Do’s and Don’ts Rotary Pumps
Do’s-
- Remember to keep the suction lift to a minimum and support all piping as well as hoses as required.
- Carefully fill the pumps as well as the tanks with water, before starting or even connecting the unit.
- Drain the tanks, pump, as well as all the hoses & piping during freezing weather or during the extended periods of non-usage. Make sure to rotate the pump end while draining in order to remove the maximum amount of water.
Don’ts-
- Don’t ever try to lift the pump with suction or discharge hoses still being attached to it.
- Don’t try running the engine at a faster or slower pace than the given recommended operating speed range.
- Do not start or even stop the pump with the transmission in an engaged state or at a high speed.
Do’s and Don’ts Multi Stage Pumps
Do’s-
- Always remember to allow the pump to cool down, before disconnecting any hoses or before draining the given pump.
- Be careful to avoid air traps in the suction as well as the discharge lines. Make sure that the suction line is designed with a slight slope.
- It’s always better to follow the maintenance schedule, as it is specified in the given manual.
Don’ts-
- Do not perform any service or any kind of repairs, while the pump end or the engine is running or is still hot.
- Don’t try to operate the unit while the discharge line is obstructed or a discharge valve is closed.
- Don’t disconnect or by-pass any gauges or safety shutdown switches.
